DISCOVER THE GLORIOUS ISLANDS OF SOUTH PACIFIC

Did you know that 8th June is World Oceans Day? Coined by the United Nations, it’s a special day that marks the importance of the seven seas globally. Over 144 countries participate in a number of events that take place on this day!

Get inspired and seize the opportunity this summer to discover the world’s oceans. You could start with indulging in some island hopping and snorkelling in the South Pacific.

EVERY ISLAND IS UNIQUE

No two South Pacific islands are alike. Each has developed in isolation due to its unique geographical position, nature, and customs. The beauty of island hopping is that you are able to discover new joys at each destination. We’ve listed some of these beautiful islands that you can add into your travel bucket list and visit below!

Fiji

This island is geared up for tourism; the locals are friendly, prices are reasonable and you’ll readily find all that you expect and more. Fiji consists of an archipelago of more than 330 islands; 110 of these islands are permanently inhabited. Check out the resorts on Korolevu, Sigatoka, and Nadi, just three of the amazing islands in Fiji! Fiji is truly a serene haven that invites you in to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Discover a glorious variety of massages, including a Duavata island-style four-handed massage!

Samoa

Made up of 10 islands, Samoa is authentically Polynesianits inhabitants, the Samoans, still adhere to centuries-old social codes known as Fa’a Samoa (the Samoan Way).
Explore the island and go snorkelling, or swim with turtles at the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve in Upolu. There is equipment for hire if you need it!

Have a feel of Samoa at its purest by taking a short boat trip from the main islands of Upolu or Savai’i to Manono Island (population of 800+). Take a dip in the idyllic swimming hole at Afu Aau Waterfalls on the southern coast of Savai’i Island!

Cook Islands

Visiting “The Cooks” is limited to its more accessible group of islands on the south: Rarotonga, Aitutaki and Atiu. Rarotonga is a compact island offering access to a myriad of outdoor activities such as hiking, water sports and diving escapades. The beaches, markets, and Polynesian “island nights” are also not to be missed!

You could also take a cycling tour along the ‘back road’ to witness the tranquil pace of local village life. Aitutaki is perhaps home to the most beautiful lagoon in the Pacific where life moves leisurely, at a turtle’s pace.

Vanuatu

Distinctively French in character, this land is always joyful and full of surprises, amazing cuisine, food and architecture. You could even be greeted with beautiful flowers in your bed!

Explore its waters and paddle alongside, green-banded iguanas, coconut crabs, starfish, as well as baby turtles in Reef Vanuatu Zoological’s wildlife conservation area! You could also hike up a crater and peer into a magma-filled active volcano before returning to sea level to snorkel in a blue holeall in the same day!

Whichever island in Vanuatu you decide upon, you’ll discover deserted beaches, evident signs of an ancient culture and the brightest smiles.

French Polynesia

Many consider the islands in French Polynesia as the finest cluster in the South Pacific as they’re the most diverse, impressive, and easiest to get around. Its three most visited archipelagos are the Society Islands (great for beaches, lagoons, hikes, snorkelling), the Tuamotu Atolls (experience world-class scuba diving), and the Marquesas Islands (a dream destination for nature and history lovers).

With the likes of Tahiti and Bora Bora in French Polynesia, it is the perfect place to experience contemporary, yet warm, laidback island culture and take it slow. If you truly enjoy island hopping, there is no other cluster more inviting than French Polynesia!

Easter Island (Rapa Nui)

There is no place on Earth surrounded by as much mystery (or ocean!) than this tiny island in the middle of the Pacific. Easter Island is home to the famous gigantic statues known as moai and has an extraordinary atmosphere.

The island is eco-friendly and a great way to explore and take in all its beauty is on foot, riding a bike or horse. Climb the volcano’s rim and look in all directions to see just the horizon. Experience an incredible feeling of detachment from the world as you know it! At sea level, you’ll find world-class snorkelling, diving and surfing. Wherever you find yourself, you’ll surely be greeted with the broadest smiles.
